pit & fissure sealants

Pit and fissure sealants are protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of teeth, primarily molars and premolars, to prevent cavities. These teeth have grooves and pits that can trap food and bacteria, making them more prone to decay. Sealants act as a barrier, preventing food particles and bacteria from accumulating and reducing the risk of tooth decay, especially in children and teenagers.

  • Children: Newly erupted permanent molars and premolars.
  • High-Risk Individuals: People prone to cavities or with deep grooves and pits in their teeth.
  • Preventive Measure: For individuals with no current decay but at risk due to tooth anatomy.
  • Resin-Based Sealants: Most commonly used; provide strong and durable protection.
  • Glass Ionomer Sealants: Release fluoride and are easier to place but less durable.
