Pulpectomy and Pulpotomy

Pulpectomy and pulpotomy are dental procedures designed to address issues with the pulp of a tooth. These procedures are commonly performed on primary and permanent teeth to treat decay or trauma affecting the tooth's inner structures. Pulpectomy involves the complete removal of the dental pulp, including both the coronal (crown) and root canal portions, making it suitable for teeth with irreversible pulpitis or necrosis. In contrast, pulpotomy is a more conservative procedure that removes only the infected or inflamed coronal pulp while preserving the vitality of the root pulp, making it ideal for reversible pulpitis or immature permanent teeth. Both procedures aim to alleviate pain, eliminate infection, and preserve the tooth's function, but they differ in scope and complexity.
