Root canal

A root canal is a dental procedure used to treat infection or damage within the pulp of a tooth. The pulp contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue, and when it becomes inflamed or infected due to deep decay, trauma, or cracks, a root canal is performed to save the tooth. During the procedure, the dentist removes the damaged pulp, cleans and disinfects the root canals, and fills them with a biocompatible material. The tooth is then restored with a filling or crown to ensure its functionality and longevity.

  • Diagnosis: X-rays are used to assess the tooth's condition.
  • Anesthesia: Local anesthesia is administered to numb the area.
  • Pulp Removal: The infected or damaged pulp is removed.
  • Cleaning and Shaping: The root canals are cleaned, disinfected, and shaped.
  • Filling: The canals are filled with a material like gutta-percha.
  • Restoration: The tooth is sealed with a filling or covered with a crown for strength and durability.
